CREATIVE ESSAY

CREATIVE ESSAY

A childhood nightmare”

I still remember the night that changed my life forever. I was only 12 years old. I lived in a little town called Chaneja located in the mountains, which was very quiet and most of the time there was nothing to do, nothing to be afraid of until that night. I lived in a big house outside the village. My family was considerably small for that house. We were just my sister Alice who was 10 years old, my parents Robert and Isabella, and me Peter.

That night Alice and I were watching the TV. My parents were in the kitchen preparing dinner. The telephone rang, my father took the call and he looked terrible. He was surprised by the call and my mother was very worried about it. When my father hung up the phone he told us that my grandmother had suffered an accident in her house, and she was in the hospital about to die. Although it was raining cat and dogs my parents said that they should go to the hospital to see grandma in her last moments. Alice and I did not want to stay alone in home, but my father did not want to take us to the hospital and so we had to stay at home.

We were very afraid of staying at home alone. We decided to watch a movie to feel no fear while our parents came back. When we were at the middle of the movie the lights of the house turned off with no reason. My sister screamed out loud. I was terrified; I did not know what to do. Thunders surrounded the environment and their light came through the windows. Suddenly the doorbell rang and we stared at the door at the same time. We went to the door together to see what was at that time. As we opened the door, it was everything dark and dismal. There was a middle size wood box in our feet, my sister opened the box and the light of a thunder lighted the face of a puppet. I got scared with the dummy but my sister insisted on keeping the little puppet. We went inside and my sister started to play with it, I asked her to go with me to the kitchen to look for candles to illuminate the house. My sister left the puppet into the box and we went to the kitchen. When we came back my sister looked for the puppet in the box but there was no puppet. It has just disappeared from the box, I felt a terrible feeling about it and I took her hand and ran to my parent’s room. When we were in the room, we heard some weird noises from the living room. We were speechless with the laughs we were hearing, like diabolic laughs. We went to a corner of the room; we sat down and covered ourselves with a blanket. We heard the door of the room opening, then something walking toward us. It stooped just in front of us, I felt its breathing in the blanket, and we were astonishing about it. I took down the blanket and I saw the puppet standing just in front of me, smiling, and stretching his hand to touch mine. At that precise moment I woke up and I realize that it has just been a nightmare, a really bad nightmare. When I was recovering of it, the doorbell rang. I ran to the door, I opened the door, and the only thing I could see was a wood box.
